Oliva Nova, Mediterranean Equestrian Tour
18-10-18 to 14-11-18
What an amazing 3 weeks I had showjumping in Oliva Nova! This was my first trip driving abroad, we went in convoy (4 lorries, 20 horses and 8 people!) and took us 3 days to get there. Whilst out there I was working with Pippa Funnell, grooming and warming up her horses but also got chance to watch other members of the Billy Stud with their young horses. They had some great results.
I took one of my own horses, Dirk, who was pretty spritely and rather fresh on the first week which cost us a couple of annoying poles but with some arena practice we progressed, and it felt good. It was great to get back in the ring and with 3 rounds every weekend I felt confident and in a good place, especially by week 3.
That said, it wasn’t all showjumping, we rode on the beach and in the sea which I absolutely loved. It was a tiring trip but fantastic experience and they were such a lovely bunch of people to work with from the Billy Stud. We are happy to be home now and looking forward to the next outing.
The All England Jumping Championships, Hickstead
The Royal International Horse Show
As you may have noticed recently I have been trying my hand at a bit of showjumping more than usual, so it was no surprise that when I got the invite to ride in Hickstead's MS Amlin Eventers' Challenge I was over the moon. This is one of my absolute favourite places to ride and so to have the chance to go in the main arena cross-country-style was epic. I was absolutely terrified going in, that arena is HUGE, but Willem was a star. Although he was a little strong going round (I like to think of it as over excited...) he did me proud and we got round in one piece with no embarrassing moments.
All horses jumped fantastically all week in the back arenas, getting plenty of practice in for our next eventing outing.
Well what a consistent weekend I’ve had!!
ChitChat was very good jumping a really lovely and confident double clear, she struggled a little bit in the heat for the dressage but really pleased with her over all performance after not having run for a while.
Bubbles seemed to be struggling on the ground in both the warm up and the arena and managed to trip over a good 4 or 5 times in his test so didn’t get to show off some of the great work we were getting in our lesson with Pip on Friday, but he jumped another great double clear!
Clarke showed massive improvements on the flat scoring a better mark with just one big mistake in his test, so pleased with him and grateful to Pip for her amazing help! He sadly just had 1 fence down but still jumped super and breezed round the XC finishing full of running!
And they ALL finished 9th !!!
This Friday we headed to Aston for Moorelands Celebration's (Clarke) first ever advanced and I could not be prouder of how he went. He did a super test, hitting a PB of 33.6 and gave me two amazing double clears. We had a few time penalties in the cross country, but on this ground, and for his first time stepping up a level I just wanted to make sure we got round nicely, so we could finish with loads of confidence looking towards our next event together. It's a very special feeling being able to take a home bred up through the levels, made all the better when you're on such a superstar - I can't wait to see what the future has for this guy.
