chuffy clarke is a 23 year old event rider based near dorking in surrey
Taking to riding at the young age of eight, Chuffy began to find her love of horses at the Surrey Union Pony Club, where she took part in as many rallies as she could fit in the diary and was a regular member on the competition teams. During her time in the Pony Club Chuffy was hugely successful, winning National Novice Championships for Eventing and Dressage on her wonderful pony, Welton Jazz.
Chuffy started competing with British Eventing when she was 13 and was selected to represent the South East on the junior squad. They won this competition as a team and Chuffy was placed 8th individually. This gave Chuffy her first taste of competing at the higher level and she hasn't looked back since.
At 17 Chuffy was runner up in the U18 National Championships at Houghton International.. This result lead to her represnting Team GB at the Junior Europeans on her little black horse Uchin.
Chuffy has been lucky enough to be based with some incredible horsemen and women such us Lisa and Fred Ford, Pippa Funnell, Rodney Powell and Alex Franklin. Here she furthered her passion for eventing and picked up all the invaluable knowledge she now utlilises on her own yard.
Chuffy competed in her first 3* in 2017 at Barbury and finished 9th on her top horse Second Supreme (Ed). Following on from this, the pair took part in Chuffy’s first Event Rider Master class at Blair and finished 8th (youngest person to sit on the podium at the time).
In 2018 Chuffy reached a real career landmark by being selected for her first GB senior team in the Nations Cup at Houghton on Ed and was the only member to jump a double clear. A few months later Chuffy experienced a shattering low, when she lost this horse of a lifetime, whilst competing at Bramham. However, Chuffy had a fantastic team to pick her up and she went onto take Morelands Celebration around his first advanced double clear.
The season was finished off by switching over to top level show-jumping out in Spain, with former eventer, Dirk. This pair are successfully jumping clear rounds at 1m40 level and in their first 1.45 class just had the one fence down. Alongside competing the exciting team of event horses in 2019, Chuffy will also continue to show-jump Dirk and hopes to do a 1.50m class this year.
